Vercingetorix was the last king of a united Gaul, which is located in what is now present-day France. Him and his country were defeated by Julius Caesar and the Roman Republic. He surrendered to Rome in order to save his men and despite sacrificing his throne for peace, he was executed when reaching the Roman capital.
