King James II (while still a prince) married Anne Hyde who was technically a commoner and they married in secret as almost everyone connected to them urged them not to get married. But Anne Hyde actually was outlived by her husband and she did not live to become Queen. But her daughters Mary and Anne did become reigning queens.
