During the first three phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the majority of fans could not believe how good the films were. But Phase 4 has been rather rocky and I’ll admit that the quality of Marvel Cinematic Universe has gone downhill. I wasn’t the hugest fan of the original two Ant-Man films but I was somewhat excited because I knew that Kang the Conqueror would be part of the story.

The movie takes place sometime after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Scott Lang is enjoying being a minor celebrity and a local hero in his hometown of San Francisco, California.

It turns out that his daughter Cassie knows how to work with Hank Pym’s technology. While she technically isn’t Ant-Girl, she knows enough of the science to accidentally open a portal to the Quantum Realm. Which sucks the whole extended family inside.

Which quickly uncovers that Janet Von Hope had many secrets during her decades in the Quantum Realm.

All the mystery is tied to Kang the Conqueror, who was exiled there many moons ago. And he’s not exactly happy to see Janet waltz right back in.

I will say that I was really disappointed in the role they gave Bill Murray. If they had casted some actor nobody knew about, we would never cared about this character… ever.

I did like the twist they did with MODOK as I have found him to be one of the lamest villains in the Marvel Comics. But I will say that the CGI on his true face was pretty awful especially for a multi-billion dollar movie studio. I imagine there’s some kid on YouTube who’s already fixed it for free.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is definitely one of the weaker films in the overall Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s a slightly bright spot for Phase 4 because it is likable but it just isn’t great. It’s all right, even slightly good, but not fantastic. I’m afraid the figureheads behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe are going to make Kang way too overpowered in the overall Multiverse Saga and that may be just its undoing.
