A woman named Juliane Koepcke was the sole survivor of the 1971 LANSA Flight 508 plane crash. She fell 3,000 meters (10,000 ft) while strapped to her seat after her plane was struck by lightning. Other passengers survived this way too, but they landed in the Amazon rainforest and Koepcke was the only one rescued in time.
