I was tempted to watch Shazam 2 in theaters earlier this year, but I decided against it. Apparently a lot of people thought like me, because it apparently was the worst performing DC movie in a long time in terms of making money. Mainly because James Gunn is taking over the DC Universe and people are cautious about whether watching a new movie would be worth it or not. But Fury of the Gods recently dropped on Max and I wanted to give it a try.

The movie obviously takes place after the first with Billy Batson now having his foster siblings with the same (but not quite) powers that he has.

The new enemies this time around are Kalypso and Hespera, daughters of the dead Greek god Atlas. Apparently Shazam’s powers are partly stolen from Atlas and they are PISSED off.

And Billy Batson isn’t quite sure what to do and he’s very unconfident as a new superhero. Despite being so victorious in the last movie.

I will say that I did enjoy the Wonder Woman cameo but I won’t spoil exactly how big or small the cameo is. Gal Gadot was almost perfect casting as Diana Prince and (as far as I know) her fate in the new DC movie universe is still up in the air. While I expect her to be in the new Flash movie, this may be our last time seeing her, which is a shame.

Fury of the Gods is a pretty good movie and I slightly regret not seeing it in theaters. The first movie was desperately trying to be DC’s Deadpool in term of funniness and this one’s not as much. It has a pretty decent story, villains that surprised me in terms of how good they were, and a satisfying ending. My only complaint with the story is that his foster siblings are kind of dead weight, even with their powers. Also the magic staff that the villains use is way too powerful for its own good and damages the plot in my opinion.
