Louis, Count of Soissons was a second cousin of Louis XIII of France and technically could have been King of France if the other lines had died out. But wheb France went to war with Spain, he actually took the Spanish side and fought with them. He did die in a battle that was ultimately very successful for Spain. But the count died apparently from accidentally shooting himself in the head when lifting his visor.
