Damsel is a rather new hit for Netflix, getting a lot of buzz. Mainly because it’s star, Millie Bobby Brown who is more famous for portraying Eleven on Stranger Things. I really wanted to like this one, but it wasn’t in the stars.

Millie Bobby Brown plays a noble woman named Elodie. Her local area is suffering from problems and her dad arranges a marriage to a prince, so they could get royal coins.

But something does seem to be a little off about the royal family. Especially the queen, as looks like she was your high school friend who is about to introduce you to a pyramid scheme.

And it seems only her stepmother is the one that figures out something’s aloof.

I won’t spoil most of the details but eventually she has to escape a killer and very intelligent dragon that can speak.

Elodie is trapped inside a mountain and this movie goes from fantasy to almost horror pretty quick.

It also lacks a lot of realism, as she should have died 5 minutes in, easy…

The CGI effects of the movie are also not up to par to what we would expect. While Netflix has made some pretty good movies, this one definitely screams made-for-TV like the old days of cable. I can never see this Great Value Smaug bringing people to the Silver Screen.

Critical and audience reactions to this movie have been mixed. It’s not entirely bad and I could see why some people could enjoy it. While it has a talented cast, the direction of the movie is abysmal as even Robin Wright of all people has some of the corniest acting in this movie. Whether you like or dislike the movie, I don’t think many people are going to be remembering this one very vividly five years from now.
