If you are one of the many that didn’t see Wish in theaters last year, then you would mostly be among friends because almost nobody did. This Disney movie tanked hard at the box office and I will say that it just didn’t look that interesting to me. But it came out on Disney+ not that long ago, so I watched it with my family.

The film is set in the fictional Kingdom of Rosas. The island nation was founded by its current ruler King Magnifico. The country doesn’t really suffer from poverty, war, or disease.

But the main protagonist is a girl named Asha. She is proud to become the Kings next apprentice, in which she is quite excited to start her work.

King Magnifico is actually a sorcerer and he’s capable of granting wishes, for which he does 12 times a year. Almost everybody in the island gave their wishes to him but doing so prevents them from actually knowing what it was.

And Asha soon learns that King Magnifico isn’t as magnificent as his name might suggest. And soon enough, she gets fired from her job.

But soon after, Star comes down from the sky. While the little ball of light cannot actually talk, the benevolent cutie is just as magical as King Magnifico and is the only thing that can upset his total control over magic.

I would say the best thing about Wish is actually the music. It has wonderful singing and the songs are very good but definitely not the best Disney has ever done. But besides the music, the little goat Valentino was also one of the highlights of the movie.

Along with Star too, he’s just so adorable. But while Disney did trying to push merchandise hard to make him a likable character, I do expect his small popularity to supernova into obscurity in about 5 to 10 years.

Wish is actually a pretty good film but I don’t regret not seeing in theaters. Disney was hoping this movie would make a comeback while on the silver screen as Elemental did but I would consider Elemental to be a far superior film. But for a movie to watch on Disney+ with the family, it’s not a bad choice.
I didn’t hear good things about this one, so I didn’t put it in my Disney watch list. I might have to go add it and give it a try now.
