King George III’s wife Queen Charlotte was actually good friends with the French Queen Marie Antoinette. Despite never meeting face-to-face, they had a great relationship through pen and paper. The British Queen-consort was deeply saddened to hear of her friend’s demise.

I know she was from Germany so she spoke German and learned English. She must have learned French too in order to write to Marie Antoinette.
