Things I Like: Cowardly Lion (The Wizard of Oz 1939)

Bert Lahr as the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz 1939 movie

The Cowardly Lion is one of the best things about The Wizard of Oz, though I do prefer the Tin Man. But I do like the scaredy cat more than the Scarecrow.

He’s the last friend they get to meet and he originally appears to be a bully. But it was all a scare tactic as he’s really just a wuss despite being a lion.

But he actually does show real courage when him and Dorothy go up against the Wicked Witch of the West.

Which basically makes his wish from The Wizard of Oz worthless, though he doesn’t quite realize it because of his poor self confidence.

So when The Wizard of Oz is outed as a regular human without any forms of magic, his wish of courage is a badge of honor. Which is more than Chewbacca got at the end of the original Star Wars movie.
