Charlie’s Angels wasn’t a television series I was old enough to enjoy, but I was at the perfect age to appreciate the movie reboot at the turn of the millennium. It was such a great movie, especially compared to that awful reboot from about a decade ago — which everyone seems to have forgotten about.

This movie definitely helped the careers of Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu, and Drew Barrymore. All three actresses and their characters shared about equal weight, which really added to the film’s balance.

This was also before Hollywood became all “wokeish-Puritan” and actually embraced sexiness. What makes me smile about the screenshot is knowing that Drew Barrymore is bisexual — she probably wasn’t even acting in this particular scene!

While none of the three main ladies are my type now, this particular scene definitely awakened something in me when I was 12 years old.

I always thought the voice of Charlie was perfect, and I only recently learned that it was actually the original Charlie from the TV series who voiced this version as well.

I also finally remembered that Bill Murray played Bosley. I always thought it was strange that he didn’t return for the sequel. If I remember correctly, it was because he and Lucy Liu had a pretty heated confrontation — he was apparently being quite the bully.

I had also forgotten that Tom Green was in the movie. He was either dating or married to Drew Barrymore at the time. After they divorced, he pretty much disappeared from the public eye.

Maybe it’s a little cheesy, but the action scenes were pretty darn good. The screenshot I found was funny because you can clearly tell that all three ladies are the stunt doubles.

Reboots can be risky since Hollywood has a tendency to ruin the original property — and I’m sure this one had its share of haters back in the day. But this was a very solid and well-executed attempt. It’s a shame we only got one sequel instead of a full trilogy.
