Gogo Yubari is one of my favorite villains from Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill franchise. Tarantino apparently saw Chiaki Kuriyama in the Japanese horror movie Battle Royale—which many believe Suzanne Collins copied to create The Hunger Games—and wanted her in the film. I’d assume it was a bit challenging for Tarantino, since he likely doesn’t speak much Japanese, and it’s doubtful she’s fluent in English either.

She’s the top underdog assassin for O-Ren Ishii, despite looking like a beautiful and petite Japanese schoolgirl.

But she’s absolutely ruthless and psychopathic. She’s definitely a total biatch—she straight-up murders a guy in a bar just because he found her attractive and tried to lure her in with money.

After Beatrix Kiddo defeats most of the Crazy 88, Gogo becomes her next major challenge before facing O-Ren Ishii. Her ball and chain weapon is definitely fun to watch in action against the Bride’s katana.

What bothers me about this fight is that her ball and chain had a deadly saw built into it. If she had activated it at the start of the fight, she probably would’ve won easily.

Out of all the people Beatrix fights in the Kill Bill films, Gogo arguably came the closest to actually killing her. If Beatrix hadn’t found that broken table leg with the nails in it, she likely would’ve been choked to death by those chains. Despite my complaints, Gogo Yubari is definitely one of my favorite movie baddies of all time.
