Fun Facts and Trivia About Chicken Little

Fun Facts trivia and things you never knew about Chicken Little fable children's stories

The story of “Chicken Little” originated in Europe under its British name, Henny Penny. In England, it’s also known as Chicken Licken.

“Chicken Little” isn’t entirely original—similar tales date back many centuries before it, suggesting that it was inspired by predecessor folk stories.

There are many versions of “Chicken Little,” but the most gruesome is technically the most classic. In that version, Chicken Little and the other animals he alarmed are invited by a fox to take shelter in a cave, only to be devoured one by one.

In other versions, the birds realize the fox’s trick in time, band together, and chase the fox away to safety.

Disney’s first attempt to adapt “Chicken Little” came in 1943, when they produced a wartime cartoon advising viewers not to succumb to enemy propaganda.

Although a fox is usually the story’s villain, in some retellings the predator is instead a wolf, a cat, or even a coyote.
