Pai Mei is one of the most memorable characters in Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill franchise, despite not having a whole lot of screen time. His actor, Gordon Liu, also played Johnny Mo, who was part of O-Ren Ishii’s Japanese Yakuza gang.

Pai Mei is an old and wise Chinese martial arts master. He apparently taught Bill martial arts, and Bill later arranged for Pai Mei to train Beatrix Kiddo — long before the two of them hated each other’s guts.

Luckily, Bill warned Beatrix about showing Pai Mei any real disrespect, as this dude was so powerful he could dodge any sword swing sent at him with ease. It didn’t even seem possible for someone to be that good.

And could easily overpower any of the students he ever taught. He was the one who tore out Elle Driver’s eye after she called him a miserable old fool. I can’t stand watching that brutal moment.

Elle later reveals to the Bride that she got revenge on Pai Mei by poisoning his fish heads, which ultimately led to his death. To be totally honest, he was kind of asking for it — you don’t rip out someone’s vital body parts and expect them to wish you good health.
