Kelly Watson is one of the most notable minor characters on NBC’s Superstore who didn’t stay for the entirety of the series. I believe her character was meant to have been some kind of beauty pageant queen before working at Cloud 9. Her actress, Kelly Stables, had experience in that world when she was younger, so it made sense.

However, it’s a bit unclear why someone like Kelly would choose to work at a place like Cloud 9. The pay is terrible, and the work is physically demanding. Given how conventionally attractive she is, it seems she wouldn’t have much trouble finding a partner who could support a household on their own.

She eventually becomes Jonah’s girlfriend, and the two live together for a while. They actually made a pretty cute couple. But because of the way the story was crafted, you could sense—and even hope—that Jonah would eventually leave her for Amy.

And that’s exactly what happens, making things awkward between Jonah and Kelly. I have a lot of sympathy for Kelly in that situation because she genuinely did nothing wrong. That kind of breakup, where someone is left simply because the other found someone “better,” can be especially painful and frustrating.

The post-breakup parts of Kelly’s arc are a bit hazy for me, but I remember she eventually transferred to a different Cloud 9 store. Still, she popped in and out of the series even after her regular appearances ended.
