Things I Like: Poe Dameron (Star Wars Sequel Trilogy)

Poe Dameron was one of the most notable characters in the Star Wars sequel trilogy who never wielded a lightsaber. Despite the mixed reception of the sequels, the trilogy helped propel Oscar Isaac into global stardom.

I don’t remember every detail of his storyline, but he was meant to be the best pilot in the Resistance—essentially filling the same role we saw with Luke Skywalker in the X-Wing during the original trilogy.

Poe has some great moments in his X-Wing. I think my favorite was the fake-out maneuver he pulled against the First Order.

And, of course, he was the one who delivered the now-infamous line: “Somehow, Palpatine returned.” I can only hope that line sounded just as ridiculous in Oscar Isaac’s head as it did to the audiences sitting in theaters.

Poe also played a major role in leading the Resistance against Palpatine’s massive fleet, which was essentially the rebirth of the Empire. You can practically feel his relief when the unofficial backup armada arrives just as they’re about to be blown out of the sky.
