Our Visit To The Audubon Aquarium (New Orleans, LA)

Audubon Aquarium New Orleans Louisiana USA

We went to the Audubon Aquarium during our free day before my wife’s surgery in New Orleans. She wanted to go to the zoo, but I figured we could do that in November. August outdoors in Louisiana didn’t sound appealing to me. The aquarium would definitely be air-conditioned.

It wasn’t a groundbreaking aquarium, though. It had about the standard exhibits you’d expect in other places. I really liked the shot I captured of some jellyfish.

I also saw a crocodile (or maybe an alligator, I’m not sure) with a pretty good view. I’m definitely glad I wasn’t in the water with that big lizard.

They also have an entire section dedicated to insects and other bugs, which doesn’t excite me much. Butterflies are beautiful, but the rest… hard pass.

I was a little sad my son Alex wasn’t with us, because they had Peppa Pig and George available for photos, and that’s currently his favorite show. There was a massive line of kids waiting for their turn, so at least we avoided that chaos.

We also ate there since it was convenient. I wasn’t expecting a four-star Michelin restaurant as food courts at tourist attractions usually just provide food, not a real meal. But my pizza was actually pretty good, which honestly surprised me.

I’d say the Georgia Aquarium and the Ripley’s Aquariums are better places to see marine life, but we still enjoyed our visit. Would I go again? Not anytime soon. And after her surgeries are finished, I highly doubt we’ll ever return to New Orleans. It’s not a terrible city by any means, it’s just not my top choice of places to visit.

  1. I hope you’re both doing well now! I’ve never been there but the only thing I’ve heard from anyone who has, is that albino alligator is stunning.

It looks like a nice aquarium. I love NOLA and can’t wait to go back. I went in 2021 when everything was still pretty closed off, so I missed seeing a lot of attractions like this.

I hope that your wife’s surgery went well, Adam! I have never seen New Orleans, and I want to see it! I love aquariums, and I plan to visit Waikiki’s when we return in January. All the best!
