While he doesn’t have a lot of screen time in Frosty the Snowman by Rankin/Bass, but this Santa Claus is one of my holiday favorites. He is purely good, and I like this particular incarnation. Especially compared to the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer version, where he takes part in bullying the main character.

He was just on his jolly good way to complete his Christmas Eve run until Hocus Pocus the rabbit signaled for help, and the not-so-magical white bunny told him what happened to Frosty in the greenhouse.

He then comforts the heartbroken Karen when she sees that Frosty the Snowman is no more than a puddle of water. But using the “Christmas snow” excuse as a bit of plot armor, he’s able to bring Frosty back to his true form.

One thing I did notice while rewatching the movie is that he drops Karen back home on the roof… but how does she get back into the house? I know he can go down the chimney since he’s Santa Claus, but she obviously can’t, and that roof is at least two stories tall.

He later takes Frosty to the North Pole so he can live there, presumably for the rest of his snowman days. Since Rudolph and Frosty technically exist in the same universe due to the spin-off movies where they cross over, I guess his one true friend is Sam the Snowman, at least until he gets his own wife.
It’s that time of year. My daughter wants to start watching Christmas stuff!
