My wife, Jessica, works as an optician (not an eye doctor), but her office does not see children. Even at a sister location, they typically do not handle kids my son’s age very well. So we took him to a place called Clemson Eye, which is very kid-focused at this particular branch. Instead of letters, they let Alex identify shapes, and he did mostly well, though with a few of them, I wondered if he was just unsure and blurted out an answer or if he genuinely couldn’t see it.

He didn’t like having his eyes dilated, but he did fairly well overall, and they gave him a small toy to play with after they finished the exam. Since both Mommy and Daddy wear glasses, it wasn’t much of a surprise when they told us he needed some too. Even though he seems to see quite well, they discovered he has myopia and an astigmatism.
He looks like he had a pretty good time. How old were you both when you first had glasses?
He looks like he enjoyed himself! My daughter hasn’t had an eye exam yet.

Glad he did well! Even I don’t like going to the eye doctor so that’s good he handled it so well.
Alex looks like he’s having lots of fun!
