Things I Like: Clarice (Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer 1964)

Clarice is a minor but notable character in the Rankin/Bass Christmas special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. It is a little amusing that her name would later be associated more with The Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal Lecter than with this Christmas classic.

But she is a beautiful young doe who looks strangely similar to Rudolph’s mother. Her heart is completely pure and sweet.

She takes an immediate liking to Rudolph and is very direct about what she wants. She is the one who tells Rudolph that his nose is not broken and is something to be proud of. This makes her far more progressive than most people or animals at the North Pole.

She becomes caught up in the whole Bumble situation and is placed in some danger. But it all works out for the best, and presumably Rudolph ends up with her once he is fully mature. However, I do not think there was any sequel or spinoff that ever confirmed that.
