DC Comics, and by extension the DC Extended Universe, has plenty of villains, and not all of them are created equal. I don’t think there’s any universe where Captain Boomerang isn’t a lame bad guy. I also highly dislike Jai Courtney as an actor, so he wasn’t winning any points there.

We briefly learn that the Flash, who is his standard nemesis in most DC Comics stories, was the one who put him in jail. But technically, he was just a bank robber who was very good at what he did and came to America after getting bored with robbing Australian banks.

He’s kind of the wild card in Suicide Squad. He eventually calms down and leans more into the team spirit as time goes on, but you can definitely see him betraying people. I also don’t recall him having any great fight scenes.

He was also really pissed to learn that all they were getting for a mission that technically saved the world was ten years off their prison sentences. And he wasn’t smart enough to ask for anything extra, like Deadshot did with visitation rights with his daughter, or Harley Quinn did with her cappuccino machine.

I was surprised to see him show up in the sequel, The Suicide Squad. He reunites with Rick Flag and Harley Quinn as part of a new team. Only Rick Flag and Harley Quinn initially survive, while the rest of the squad is absolutely slaughtered, with Captain Boomerang being killed by a falling helicopter. There’s no love lost for me there.
