Our Visit to Whit’s Frozen Custard of James Island (Charleston SC)

The Sunday of our spring break vacation, we were so tired from traveling and going to the beach that we ended up having a very lazy day. We still wanted to leave the beach house for a bit, so all we really did was go to Whit’s Frozen Custard for some ice cream. It is apparently a chain, so this should not be the only location, but it is the only spot in the James Island area of Charleston, South Carolina.

It is a small place with not a lot of tables and chairs for eating. I am not sure how busy it gets at certain times, so that is something to keep in mind. I was pretty surprised that they only have two traditional ice cream flavors at any given time, chocolate and vanilla. That made my stepdaughter Lily and me a little disappointed because she is a big strawberry fan. They do have daily and weekly special flavors, but none of those really interested us. My son Alex and my wife Jessica lucked out since they both like chocolate.

As far as custard goes, it is pretty good, but with my only real option being vanilla, it was a bittersweet experience. Vanilla is fine, but it is also the most basic and boring flavor. With the limited choices and a cashier who came off a bit rude, I am not exactly motivated to go back the next time we visit Charleston for a family vacation.

  1. How odd that they only serve chocolate and vanilla — and rudely.

Strange they only do the 2 flavours and sorry to hear she was rude, made having a bad day? Love the photo of your family. You all look so happy Adam and Alexander is your double honestly!

  3. Well poo to the disappointing experience. I’ve never heard of the chain before, but if I come across it on my travels, I’ll probably skip it after reading this review.
