This post was originally a negative review but after talking with the owner, this review is now positive. Things have been edited to reflect changes with some of the original content remaining. As always, I leave my honest opinion and I don’t receive any selfish incentives to change said opinion.

Ray’s Pizza is technically a relatively new addition to James Island; I think it opened last year. I actually visited the previous business at the same location, PizzaVola, about two years ago and really enjoyed their slices. So I was expecting the same from Ray’s Pizza, but unfortunately back when this post was written, that was not the case. But the owner contacted me and we made it right.

Like its predecessor, they haven’t really done anything to the building, so it’s a very small place. It’s essentially a carry-out spot, which is very typical for the pizza industry in America. I will say, though, that the two guys working there that day were very nice, and their customer service was above average.

Unfortunately, the first pizza was not. This was kind of odd because a lot of their Google reviews are actually very positive. The pizza I received (above) looked similar to the pictures I had seen online and seemed promising. However, the bottom was burnt, the cheese and sauce were a bit off on taste, and I couldn’t even eat a slice. I left a Google review immediately after my visit, and the owner responded when we were already home.

So on the Sunday before Labor Day, we were back and I called them up and the owner was the one who picked up. He immediately knew who I was and he was more than happy to make things right. I did a taste test and it was MUCH better than the first time. My wife (who was very pessimistic about going back) and stepdaughter agreed as well. I also appreciated him making things right with roughly half a year being passed.
