Ray’s Pizza is technically a relatively new addition to James Island; I think it opened last year. I actually visited the previous business at the same location, PizzaVola, about two years ago and really enjoyed their slices. So I was expecting the same from Ray’s Pizza, but unfortunately, that was not the case.

Like its predecessor, they haven’t really done anything to the building, so it’s a very small place. It’s essentially a carry-out-only spot, which is very typical for the pizza industry in America. I will say, though, that the two guys working there were very nice, and their customer service was above average.

Unfortunately, the pizza itself was not. This was kind of odd because a lot of their Google reviews are actually very positive. The pizza I received (above) looked similar to the pictures I had seen online and seemed promising. However, the bottom was burnt, the cheese and sauce were a bit off on taste, and I couldn’t even eat a slice. I left a Google review immediately after my visit, and the owner responded at least a week later. He said he wanted to make me happy, but it might be another year before we return to Charleston. Honestly, I’m not sure I want to risk another disappointing experience, regardless of whether the next pizza would be free.
Sorry the pizza wasn’t good. – Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
Shame it wasn’t good.
It’s hard to get bad pizza, so you know it must have been really bad if you left a negative review after your experience. What a shame!
