Our Visit To The Childrens Museum of the Lowcountry (Charleston SC)

The Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry is pretty much the children’s museum in the heart of Charleston, South Carolina. Since Charleston proper is made up of different sections and islands, it’s really right in the downtown area, somewhat close to the French Quarter and the College of Charleston. The kids really wanted to go, and I’m always up for a place we’ve never been before.

I’m not entirely sure, but I think the company that owns the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry has to be the same as the Children’s Museum of Greenville, South Carolina. There are a lot of similarities, including a small grocery store section modeled after Publix. Alex had a lot of fun grabbing a bunch of oranges and pretending he was part of a math problem. It actually worked out well for him because it was much easier to put away a bunch of oranges than the many different things Lily grabbed in her shopping cart.

They also had mini golf outside, which I’ve seen inside at the Greenville version. I actually like mini golf a lot, but we didn’t spend much time there. Neither the kids nor I were really up for it. The course was a little too simplistic for my taste, and having all the little kids running around with other parents didn’t help either.

Probably the coolest thing I saw was the booth where you can pretend to be on the news as a newscaster. I made sure to get a picture of it.

I will say that their gift shop, which is right at the entrance, is probably one of the coolest I’ve ever seen. I can imagine how tempting it must be for kids because even as an adult I was looking around with amazement. Alex also enjoyed a small permanent race car slide while the girls were still shopping.

To be perfectly honest, I was a little disappointed with the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry. It’s not exactly cheap, but it’s a lot smaller than I expected. It’s one of those places where you get to the end and wonder where everything else is. Still, it was a decent way to spend some time, at the very least.

Looks like lots of fun Adam. My daughter loves those shopping trolleys. Some of the shops have them for kids and she always has to get one! 😀

  3. As long as the kids had fun, that’s all that matters. It does look like a fun little spot to spend the day.
