Things I Like: Christopher Smith/Peacemaker (DCEU)

John Cena as Peacemaker in the movie The Suicide Squad, wearing his signature chrome helmet and red uniform while standing in a dark jungle.

Christopher Smith, better known as Peacemaker, is by far one of the most notable characters in The Suicide Squad directed by James Gunn. I stopped watching wrestling long before John Cena ever stepped into the ring, but he is a fun guy and has definitely evolved as an actor. His character, Peacemaker, is hilarious despite being incredibly morbid.

From the movie The Suicide Squad, Idris Elba and John Cena in orange prison jumpsuits stand before a stern Amanda Waller, played by Viola Davis.

He is one of many recruits brought onto the new team of Task Force X. Bloodsport hilariously points out that he and Peacemaker are essentially the same kind of antihero, and their rivalry throughout the movie is pretty fun to watch.

I actually did not know much about him before watching the movie, but apparently his entire goal is peace. Like a warmongering Republican, he does not care how many men, women, or children are killed in the process. He is definitely very good at his job.

It turns out he was secretly operating under Amanda Waller’s orders with complete loyalty. He starts doing some suspicious things along the way and ultimately kills Rick Flag after Flag discovers that the alien starfish was the result of the United States government’s own actions.

He is technically a secondary villain and has a confrontation with Bloodsport near the end of the movie, losing their gun duel by a single bullet. He technically survives and becomes virtually the only character not played by James Gunn’s wife to carry over into the new DC Comics universe, simply called the DCU.
