Folly Beach Pier is pretty much a staple of the Folly Beach area near Charleston, and this was actually the very first time I had ever walked out on it. I had seen it plenty of times before, but for some reason we just never went up there until our spring break vacation recently. Worth noting is that there’s a gift shop, bathrooms, and a restaurant at the very beginning of the pier, though that’s not really what this post is about. Still, it’s pretty much the only convenient spot I can think of to use a restroom while on Folly Beach.

My son Alex and my wife Jessica actually didn’t go all the way to the end. I think the height scared him off, so they just sat on a bench until we were done. I’m glad my son doesn’t have too much of a daredevil side, but sometimes he’s a little too cautious for his own good. Then again, I was exactly the same way when I was little.

Lily and I made it all the way to the very end, and it really is quite a sight to behold. Granted, I doubt it’s much different from a big pier in any other beach town, but this was actually the first time I had ever stood at the far end of one. The day we went was cold and windy, so it was pretty deserted, which made it feel especially peaceful and beautiful.

This is also a very popular fishing spot for locals, recreational rather than commercial, obviously. Some people were out there fishing while we visited, but I never got to see anyone actually reel one in.
