Marriage equality has been the law of the land in America for about 11 years now, and especially during the Biden administration years, it felt like Pride Month was at its strongest. But since Donald Trump secured a narrow victory in the popular vote in 2024, his right-wing trolls have opened the floodgates to being extremely phobic in public toward anybody under the LGBTQ banner especially trans people. Pride Month 2025 definitely sucked last year, but the difference this year is that Donald Trump has lost much of his so-called popularity. Apparently, support for marriage equality sits at around 65 percent of America, meaning it is actually twice as popular as the Orange Menace himself.

Even if I live to be a hundred, I know there will still be somebody out there protesting Pride Month. As a bi man in a hetero marriage with a bi woman, we see a lot of people run their mouths about Pride Month and the community in general without realizing they are insulting us to our faces or on our social media feeds. Every June, Pride Month and Juneteenth upset droves of bigoted people who simply cannot let others live their own lives or acknowledge the celebrations of another group of people or culture.

Now, Pride Month has become more of a cultural celebration that never technically needed a government endorsement. June also includes observances such as National Immigrant Heritage Month, Men’s Mental Health Month, National PTSD Awareness Month, and National Dairy Month, all of which are worth mentioning in their own right. Several American states this month, however, have tried to rebrand Pride Month as something else. The Governor of Arkansas and general human slime ball, Sarah Huckabee Sanders (above), for example, officially declared June to be Fidelity Month in her state. Then I heard another state declared it Nuclear Family Month. These are the same types of people who would complain that it was not Military Appreciation Month, despite not realizing that such observances technically exist in both May and November. It was never about the veterans, just as it was never about the water fountains back in the 1950s.

Very recently, Andy Ogles, Republican congressman for Tennessee’s 5th District, tweeted that gay people have no place in America. I remember hearing very similar hateful rhetoric a decade ago, and this has been one of the most controversial statements from an elected politician in quite some time on the issue. I was actually shocked to see even a complete slime ball like Ted Cruz criticize him for the rhetoric, and even the weirdo who is Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, said the comment went against the biblical value of loving thy neighbor. Ironically, this is becoming one of the more encouraging aspects of Pride Month. Even many hard-right conservative politicians have softened their stances, despite still holding power.

A few years ago, some people thought we did not even need a Pride Month because acceptance had become so widespread, but recent years have proved otherwise. Some corporations have pulled back on official branding and social media posts. Plus, you ironically have LGBT right-wing pundits like Dave Rubin, Blair White, Milo Yiannopoulos, and many others trying to convince the rest of the rainbow flock to vote for the Republican wolf. If LGBT people and straight allies do not push back, we might be headed for darker times rather than sunny days and rainbows.
