Sabbac is the main villain of the DCEU film Black Adam, and overall he works well enough as an antagonist. Still, compared to villains like Ares or General Zod, he does not leave quite the same impression, even though on paper he should theoretically rank among the most terrifying enemies pulled from DC Comics lore.

The character begins as Ishmael Gregor, essentially a gang leader operating in the fictional Middle Eastern nation featured in the movie. Apparently, he is the final living descendant of an ancient king who ruled the region centuries ago. Honestly, though, that idea falls apart a little when you think about the math behind genealogy. A king from that far back would realistically have an enormous number of descendants spread across many regions and ethnic groups by the modern era, not just a single surviving bloodline.

Eventually, Ishmael transforms himself into Sabbac, a demonic entity empowered by several named demons tied to hellish mythology. Since the character draws heavily from Abrahamic style themes and imagery, it does raise an interesting question about whether he is supposed to be a literal demon or something closer to a fallen and corrupted angelic being.

Even though Sabbac was clearly designed as a one movie villain, his power level is portrayed as extremely high. He feels at least somewhat comparable to characters like Darkseid or Steppenwolf in terms of raw threat level, since he overwhelms most of the heroes throughout the climax and is directly responsible for the death of Doctor Fate.

In the end, though, it is Black Adam himself who delivers the final blow, literally tearing Sabbac in half and destroying the fiery demonic monster once and for all. I was never especially familiar with the character from the comics either, but as a movie villain, he was solid enough overall.
