Our Visit To Takeoff Mini Golf (Greenville, SC)

Take Off Mini Golf is a traditional mini golf course in Greenville, South Carolina, my home, and we finally got a chance to visit it for the very first time. I’ve heard about it for years, and I saw it this past February while taking my kids to the neighboring airplane park. It ended up being what I requested for Father’s Day, so my wife took us there.

The biggest factor for why we hadn’t gone yet was Mr. Alex here. I remember playing mini golf when I was three, and he’s four, but it was much harder for him to pay attention and understand what he was doing. He eventually gave up, started throwing the ball instead of putting it, and then Mommy ended up making him her “gopher” to get her ball out of the hole.

It’s not a terribly big place. It’s just the traditional 18 holes, plus I think there’s a special 19th hole that takes your ball if you want to try an extremely difficult challenge. I can see why they made that a bonus instead of the traditional 18th and final hole.

But I really like this course’s design, as there are many different holes. It starts with simple ones and gets more complicated as you go. There were at least two where you had to putt the ball into a hole so it would fall through a tube and hopefully land in the actual cup. Then there was one where you had to knock it over a small miniature river. And finally, there was this one with an extreme obstacle, which I’m sad to say I completely messed up on.

After we were done, I treated everybody to ice cream since I was having such a great day and it was hot. I saw on the window that they served Hershey’s ice cream, and by the time we finished playing, I was really craving it. Honestly, now that I think about it, especially with the park being so close by, it’s a fantastic place just to get ice cream regardless of whether you’re interested in the mini golf or not. There is no indoor seating, though, so during the colder months it may not be the best place to grab a frozen treat.

  1. I used to enjoy miniature golf. Haven’t played in an age. Great family photo!

  2. I am sure Mr. Alex will be a pro at mini golf in no time. Especially if there’s the promise of ice cream at the end!
