Things I Like: Abracajabya (Donkey Kong Bananza)

Promotional graphic of the boss character Abracajabya from Donkey Kong Bananza on Nintendo Switch 2. The image shows a detailed close-up of a monstrous plant creature with tangled pink and green vines, a single glowing yellow eye nestled in its core, and a wide canopy of patterned green leaves. Bold yellow text reads "Abracajabya" across the lower half with a small "VOIDCO" logo centered underneath.

Abracajabya serves as the boss of the Forest Layer in Donkey Kong Bananza on the Nintendo Switch 2. Despite having a horrendous name that sounds like somebody had a seizure while typing on the keyboard, this is actually a pretty solid boss, especially for an early one.

It’s also one of the most visually intimidating bosses in the game. Even though Donkey Kong is a giant gorilla and Pauline has magical singing powers, I’d probably mess my pants with more than bananas if I had to square off against this gigantic, monstrous plant.

Nintendo Switch 2 gameplay from Donkey Kong Bananza. Donkey Kong, wearing red overalls with his small companion riding on his back, navigates a dark wooden stage floor. In front of him is a grassy incline littered with collectable golden fruit, leading up toward massive, glowing red roots belonging to the boss Abracajabya.

Ironically, the boss is probably one of the least dangerous things in the entire Forest Layer. It doesn’t seem that way at first glance, but I don’t remember taking much damage during the fight.

The obstacles aren’t much of a hindrance, the attacks are fairly easy to dodge, and getting to Abracajabya is pretty straightforward. There are definitely more obnoxious boss battles in this game.

Defeating this monster was pretty much a piece of cake for me. I can’t remember exactly, but I’m pretty sure you get a stack of five bananas as your reward, which is a nice bonus. Even without that, it was still a little bit of a blast to play through.
