Lucas has a unique relationship with the Super Smash Bros. series. Apparently he was supposed to be in the original game (instead of Ness) but Mother 3’s N64 incarnation was cancelled. Same thing with Melee. Then it came out for GBA and Lucas appeared in Brawl. He was as just DLC for Smash 4 and now is back to his normal place here. Fans still whine for Mother 3 to have an English release, and Nintendo has refused to make a move there.
But anyway, Lucas is a lot like Ness, but he is a unique echo fighter. While some moves are the same, some moves just act different with Lucas. Like PK Thunder is typically a lot better in my opinion with Lucas than with Ness.
But they’re not radically different. His use of psychic powers and his ability to heal from energy-based attacks makes Lucas and Ness a decent challenge for any player to face. Though their light weight and skillful recover moves doesn’t make them difficult to launch to the edge of the screen or the pit below.
His final smash is PK Starstorm which calls a bunch of bursts of blue energy to rain from the sky. On big stages, people can avoid it. But on smaller stages, it’s almost a sure death.
When Kirby takes Lucas’ power he gets PK Freeze which is not a move that Ness has. It turns a foe into a big block of ice and it’s way more powerful than the freezie item. But it’s hard to get an opponent with it as they can see it coming a mile away.
Overall I did decent with Lucas but he wasn’t my favorite in the game. But I’ve met some really good players as him, so he’s typically a tough cookie to crumble. My brother Zach always liked Ness, so I imagine he’d do well with Lucas.
