The tale of Cinderella is older than anyone knows for sure. The story was first told only with speech, and was finally put on paper by Giambattista Basile of Naples, Italy in the 17th century. By the time Basile wrote down the tale of Cinderella, her name was Cenerentola. Which is still today the Italian name for the mythical princess.
