Home Improvement (SNES) Review

Home Improvement SNES SUPER Nintendo boxart

I’m a big fan of the show, and when I heard they made a video game I kinda laughed at the idea of it. What video game could they make? A marriage simulator? A building/constructing game?

Well at first it looks just like the show except Tim let his kids appear on set with him. Then the game’s plot comes in with Tim apparently missing some crates and he goes on a quest to find them.

Apparently Detroit (the setting of Tool Time) has some pre-historic time portal near it, because Tim immediately goes back to the time of dinosaurs who apparently stole spotlights from the future. Armed with power tools, Tim Taylor sets out to get his stuff back.

Except that isn’t such an easy task. You’ll often see the game over screen, when you miss a jump, or get hit by a small dinosaur. It seems like they put a lot of effort in giving Tim way too many tools to “use”, and less about the rest of the game. I’ve never met such a game that was so blatantly frustrating. All I can say is that I feel sorry for the kids who got this for Christmas in the 90’s.

Score: 1 out of 10
