Video Game History: Famicom Disk System

Famicom Disk System Nintendo

The Famicom Disk System was an add-on for game-based floppy disks for the Japanese version of the NES.

The sound of floppy disks now sound kinda lame given how awful the media is now to use, but I guess looking back it really expanded the memory and size of the games.

I hear it’s hard to find a good playing FDS that works well these days.

Anyways, the system even had it’s own mascot called Disk-Kun. Which in English would be something like Mr. Disk or Disk-Guy/Boy. Nintendo held many contests for the system as well.

Super Mario Bros Famicom Disk System

While the system was an add-on, Nintendo and 3rd parties did re-release classic Famicom/NES games on the system in the new floppy disc format. Super Mario Bros. was a given.

The Legend of Zelda Famicom Disk System

The Legend of Zelda debuted on the FDS, though I hear Nintendo finally made a Famicom cartridge of it in 1994….

Twin Famicom Sharp

Sharp eventually made the Twin Famicom. Which combined both parts into one nice and compact gaming console.

Don’t worry it came in the classic red as well.
