I’m a big fan of comic book stories and while I usually prefer Marvel, I do enjoy the superheroes from DC Comics. DC Comics has had a longer history than Marvel and when I saw the movie poster on HBO Max, I knew this new animated movie was tapping into the Golden Age of comics. Before the Avengers and the Justice League got popular, there existed the Justice Society.

The film mostly takes place during World War II, obviously. Germany has made many of countries in the world crumble before them, but the United States of America has a secret weapon. A top secret team of meta-humans that serve as a special attack squad. The leader of the team is Princess Diana, better known as Wonder Woman.

The unexpected thing is an unknown superhero stumbles a upon them, but he’s Barry Allen, the Flash of the modern world. Wonder Woman is extremely skeptical of him because none of the team knows of a way to travel through time. With Germany making more gains then they prefer, they take a big risk by trying to trust someone they don’t know.

Barry Allen really just wants a way to go back home, but he’s very amazed by where he ended up. Especially as there is another Flash on the team, one with powers just like his. The teams soon calls him Future Boy but can they save the world from Germany and send Flash back home?

To be honest, Justice Society: World War II disappointed me a little. I would have much preferred a film that just cut the modern Flash out entirely. It’s got a great idea and a good story but it’s far from the best DC has ever done for animated films. On the other hand, they have done far far worse before.
