I watched the first season of Derek back in January and thought it was pretty good. I heard it was a Netflix Original, but later learned it was first on the UK’s Channel 4. Like many British shows, there aren’t as many episodes that you normally see in America.

The second season takes place soon after the first. Derek’s estranged dad has moved into the nursing home and the two start to bond. Despite being out of his life for decades, he honestly wants to be there for his son.

Life at the nursing home where Derek works stays about typical. Dougie complains and gets angry, Kev is still a giant weirdo, and Hannah is trying to have a baby with her boyfriend Tom. Though there will be some changes by the time the story is over.

I liked the second season of Derek, but not as much as the first. I think one of the reasons is that it’s more on the drama side this time around instead of the comedy. Though there were a couple of good laughs especially with Kev’s antics. Besides a one-time special, this is the last of Derek’s story, and I’m not bitter about that.
