I remember when this movie came out and Warner Bros. actually let Netflix have it for a little while. At the time, I didn’t know much about Shazam or Black Adam, so I kind of ignored it. But since it was on HBO Max now, I decided to give it a watch.

The story primarily focuses on the villain, Black Adam. He crashes down to Earth one day, leaving destruction all in his path.

His primary target is a young boy named Billy Batson. The kid has no idea that a wizard is prepping him to be a new hero. And for that, Black Adam wants him dead as a door knob.

And soon enough, Billy Batson is given new powers and a new body by the wizard Shazam and becomes Captain Marvel.

Unfortunately the Return of Black Adam is not a very good animated movie. It’s ridiculously short and doesn’t take any time at all to cover what it really needs to cover. It was also strange to see Black Adam beat Superman (of all heroes) to a pulp.

This movie was mostly a bad idea by Warner Bros. to test out Shazam to their audience. Luckily the Zachary Levi movie helped put that character in the mainstream.
