Justice League Dark: Apokolips War is supposed to be the end of the animated movies that started with The Flashpoint Paradox.

The movie starts with the Justice League with its largest membership ever. On the flip side, Superman thinks that Darkseid is pretty close to invading the Earth and killing everybody on it. So he wants to do a preemptive strike on Darkseid’s planet Apokolips.

About half of the Justice League dissents to Superman’s plan, but despite their objections, almost everybody goes to the evil planet to wage war against all things sinister.

But they had fallen into a trap as Darkseid knew they were coming and planned on capturing or killing every single one of them. His punishment for Superman was to tattoo him with Kryptonite and make him completely powerless and then send the Man of Steel back to Earth so he can watch his planet slowly die.

With most of the heroes either powerless, hurt, or dead, it’s up to John Constantine to be the main engine on pushing the Earth’s forces to saving the world. Unfortunately it’s going to be hard to bring him back from his alcoholism, as he lost someone very important to him when Superman’s plan failed.

I will say this is probably one of the boldest animated DC comics movies I’ve ever seen. There’s a lot of death and gore, and many of our favorite heroes fall. It’s often hard to watch these scenes.

I will say that I’ve always thought that Darkseid was kind of a lame bad guy. While Marvel based Thanos off of him, I do think that the Titan is better than the New God.

I did enjoy watching the movie and it ended pretty much the same way I expected. If you haven’t caught on by now, this is definitely not a movie to keep on if your kids are watching. It’s a decent end to the animated universe they created with The Flashpoint Paradox.
