Operation Cottage was a battle in the Pacific Theater of World War II. American forces arrived on the island to fight the Japanese and suffered 313 casualties. The only problem is that the Japanese left the island earlier in secret. While some soldiers did die from landmines and traps planted by Japan, others were killed in friendly fire accidents.
