He starts out as the fiance of Ursula, but it becomes very clear that he’s a much better match for Phoebe. And he eventually breaks up with her, shortly after learning how evil she is.

And starts dating Phoebe instead. But the two break up when Phoebe realizes that he had slept with Ursula when she tricked him into thinking she was Phoebe. Which is understandable under Eric’s part, but both of them realize how weird the situation is.
