This is my second year taking a serious watch of the Bachelor franchise. Joey is technically the second Bachelor I’ve kept up with, and I was hopeful (but not super optimistic) that he would be a good Bachelor and his season would be entertaining.

Part of me felt like Joey might have been in it for the fame and being able to kiss plenty of pretty ladies at the end of the night. But he seems to be more genuine than that.

I will say that the dates on Joey’s season were kind of not-so-entertaining. I can’t remember the majority of them.

Lea was the first contestant ever announced as she was introduced at The Bachelorette finale when Joey was announced as The Bachelor. She was given a special card which turned out to be something where she could steal a one-on-one date from another girl. Which she throws in the fire. It seems that she wanted to be noble, but I would have never expected her to turn into a mean girl right before she was eliminated.

My most hated contestant on the season was Sydney. She turns Maria into Public Enemy #1 for a lot of the women there and for very little reason too. Virtually everything that she accused Maria of, was just her secretly confessing her own sins. I was very happy when Joey gave her the boot.

I was actually rooting for Maria for most of the season as I think she had the most personality of all the girls and all the hate and drama that surrounded her made me want to pull for her as the underdog. I was a bit shocked that she didn’t make it to the final three. I wasn’t optimistic that she would be the fiancée but I know Joey liked her a lot so I was a bit blindsided when he decided to end her relationship at the end of hometowns.

The woman I was always surprised made it as far as she did was Rachel. Granted, she seemed to be very genuine about the whole thing and a very good person, but I just didn’t think she was that pretty.

Before the finale aired, my wife guessed that Joey would end up with Daisy who had a health condition which basically made her half-deaf. I didn’t hate her, but I just didn’t want her to win in the finale.

And sure enough Joey picks Kelsey (who I correctly guessed) in the final episode. Out of the final three women, she was definitely the prettiest but we don’t get to see much of her personality and she stayed out the spotlight for most of the season. I definitely didn’t see it coming from episodes away however.

The way they were teasing the finale from episode 1 was Joey getting his heart broken and I figured it was a fake out. My wife thought that they would want to continue their relationship and not get engaged but I saw that he was ready to be engaged with her and so was she. And I hope they last as a couple, but up against The Bachelor’s track record, it doesn’t look good.

Jenn Tran was announced as The Bachelorette during the season finale and this one also shocked me too. I was almost certain that it was going to be Maria but my wife had guessed her because The Bachelor franchise has never had a female Asian lead in the United States. After she guessed that, I figured it actually would have been possible because she was the prettiest of the Asian women there. But I don’t think she had enough screen time to give her an accurate judge of her personality. But I guess we will find out in a few months when we see her season.
