Things I Like: Rocky Balboa (Rocky Movie Series)

Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa Rocky III

Rocky Balboa is one of my favorite characters in all fiction. Sylvester Stallone did really well creating the character and making fans love him in the movies. There was no boxing fictional character like the Italian Stallion.

Rocky Balboa vs Apollo Creed first fight Rocky I

Him losing that original fight against Apollo Creed was a creative curveball.

Rocky Balboa vs Apollo Creed rematch fight Rocky II

But it was so damn satisfying to see him beat Apollo Creed in the second movie.

Rocky Balboa training with Apollo Creed on the beach Rocky III

I really enjoyed his friendship with Apollo Creed in the third movie. Very good sportsmanship between the two as well.

Rocky Balboa vs Clubber Lang rematch Rocky III Sylvester Stallone

Out of the six Rocky movies, I would only consider the first four to be pretty darn good. My least favorite fight of the really good ones was against Clubber Lang.

Rocky Balboa vs Ivan Drago in the Soviet Union Rocky IV

But my favorite was against Ivan Drago. It’s a little cheesy with the whole Cold War thing, but it’s definitely a very satisfying fight especially as he was avenging Apollo Creed’s death.

Rocky Balboa unemployed Rocky V

Like many, I thought Rocky V was very disappointing. Rocky Balboa becoming a poor man like the original movie due to some bad investments was terrible and then they say he had health problems which prevented him from re-earning money.

Rocky Balboa fighting Tommy Gunn in the street Rocky V

And that whole street fight against Tommy Gun was just so unsatisfying.

Rocky old and aging Rocky Balboa Sylvester Stallone

I thought Sylvester Stallone was kind of Jumping the Shark with the whole Rocky Balboa movie. Which should have been called Rocky VI.

Because the idea of him coming out of retirement at such a elderly age to fight the actual champion sounds kind of cool on paper, but it was only all-right in practice.
