House of the Dragon has had a long wait, since it’s been 2 years since the original season. But it does seem like the two years was twice the wait… for half the quality.

It takes place immediately after the death of Lucerys Velaryon. His mother Rhaenyra Targaryen has reached a point of no return with the civil war against her younger brother Aegon.

Aegon rules as King Aegon II and all of King’s Landing is undisputedly his. While the rest of Westeros picks sides, all not so nice and neat on which monarch they favor.

I was really impressed by Cregen Stark, the Lord of Winterfell. I know how his story ends in this dance of the dragons, and it’s definitely one worth waiting for.

The biggest disappointment was Prince Daemon Targaryen’s journey in the season. We basically got seven episodes of him hallucinating in Harrenhal and that’s about it…

Not to say that the battles aren’t epic but despite the obvious expense of the scenes, most of the fights aren’t that incredible.

Even the dragon versus dragon scenes aren’t as impressive as you think either.

I obviously will watch season 3 but it does trouble me that the showrunners took all this time and gave us a poor result versus what we should have gotten. HBO has a Golden Goose with the Game of Thrones series and they always seem to want to be so dangerously close to slaughtering their prize possession for no apparent reason at all. I enjoyed watching season two, but I do feel partially robbed.
