It feels like Moana came out in theaters not long ago, but I remember going to see it in theaters when I lived in another city. I just checked and it’s been 8 years since the original came out. It never seemed like Moana needed a sequel, but nevertheless Disney made one anyway. I actually wanted to see Wicked Part 1 but we went to the movies on Thanksgiving to make my step daughter Lily happy.

The story takes place a few years after the last one. Moana is still trying to discover new places and connect the people of Polynesia but with not much luck.

She has a new sister Simea, who is a little big now. And she’s absolutely adorable and sassy.

Maui on the other hand has gone back to ticking off the gods of Polynesia. But he soon discovers an evil deity who placed a curse on the island that would connect all the peoples of the Pacific Ocean.

And eventually Moana and Maui reunite and their quest is to break the curse and see what happens after. And the danger they face will be much more intense than the first adventure.

I will say that I liked Moana 2, however it is definitely one of the sequels that almost everybody would prefer the original. The story is a little predictable and the first half kind of drags. And to add salt to the wound, the musical songs are just inferior to the first movie. I would highly advise you don’t see it in theaters and just wait for it to land on Disney+ in about 4 or 5 months.
I didn’t realize it was already out. I’d probably rather see this over Wicked as I heard Wicked is really long and I loathe being in a theater for long stretches.
