Things I Hate: Pastor Jeff Difford (Young Sheldon)

Matt Hobby as Pastor Jeff Young Sheldon TV Series

Pastor Jeff Difford was played brilliantly by his actor Matt Hobby but the character is fairly unlikable. Especially if you aren’t a Bible Thumper in real life.

Being the head pastor of the church that the Cooper family attends, he immediately starts a little war of religious debate with the remarkably young atheist, Sheldon Cooper. Pastor Jeff never seems to win those battles, LOL.

I was a little surprised to see him originally have a Latina wife that seemed to be out of his league. Turns out that she was all about the money, which he exaggerated about what he had. So sooner than later, their marriage ends in shambles. And the funny thing is most conservative southern baptist churches highly frown upon on divorce and some even refuse to recognize a second marriage as legitimate.

But sure enough, he finds another woman who is definitely more his match. But they quickly rush into marriage as they wanted to do stuff that God wouldn’t approve of unless they were married.

What really sealed the deal about hating this character was the fact that when Georgie got Mandy pregnant, he essentially made Mary Cooper unemployed and not part of the church anymore. Biblically right or not, he should have protected her more.
