I have ironically been playing Mortal Kombat since I was a little kid. I do remember playing Mortal Kombat: Deception when I was at a proper age of being a teenager, LOL. It wasn’t the series’ magnum opus but I did genuinely like the game.

It was a direct sequel to Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance which famously featured the death of series’ protagonist Liu Kang. Where Shang Tsung and Quan Chi murder him. And Raiden is technically is unable to stop the victory party of wickedness.

But the bad guy in this game is a new antagonist called Onaga. He’s like a big flying dragon-humanoid thing. Despite being very powerful in the series, he’s kind of just lame…

The big departure from this game versus most of the other titles of the series is a single-player mode where you travel around as some lame protagonist they forced upon you. While it wasn’t terrible, it wasn’t that great either. But you did get to see certain areas of the Mortal Kombat universe that are only just hinted or briefly shown in other games.

The actual fighting part of the game was pretty solid, just like its predecessors. I remember having a lot of fun with the battles.

I still remember being depressed as hell when I found Lui Kang dead and as a zombie. I remember him being so cool in the first two Mortal Kombat games. And for his creators being able to sacrifice him was more of a bad thing, than it was cool and edgy. As I’m sure that’s what they were thinking.

And ironically, this is really the last Mortal Kombat game I REALLY enjoyed. I’ve played a few of the new ones but none of them really kept me engaged and entertained like they did back in the day.
