Mandy McAllister was one of the rare characters in sitcom history to show up so late in the game and actually be a contribution to the series. Instead of a sign that the show had jumped the shark. This is also the first movie or show I’ve noticed Emily Osment in. Her brother Haley Joel Osment was very famous for a short while when he starred as the “I see dead people” boy in The Sixth Sense.

She shows up at the laundromat that Georgie works at for his Meemaw. Despite her being about a decade older than him, he catches her eye and the same in the reverse. She lies and says she’s younger than she is and Georgie says he’s 21 when he’s really 17…

For which she’s understandably upset to find out. And when you think that would be the end of the relationship, she finds out that she got pregnant. And since he was the only guy she was with, Georgie is undeniably the father.

And for most of her pregnancy, she keeps Georgie as an ex-boyfriend. But I’ll hand it to the young Mr. Cooper, because he really did step up and despite his age and immaturity, he was a pretty good partner to her. Even if they weren’t romantically linked together.

But she does come to her senses and they reconcile. They get married after CeeCee is born and thus the spin-off Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage was paved to creation. A spin-off of a spin-off is a pretty rare occurrence on television.
