I never had a Sega CD back in the day, but I heard about Sonic CD for many years. Sega eventually (and smartly) released it on the Sonic Gems Collection, which I played on the Nintendo GameCube. It is definitely worthy of its praise.

The intro and ending animations are also one of my favorite things about the series. Such a great song as well.

Technologically, it’s not that much different from its Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) counterparts. For people not familiar with the games, they could easily mistake it for Sonic 2 or Sonic 3.

But it does have some impressive 3D (at the time) for the bonus side levels.

It was also the first appearance of Metal Sonic and Amy Rose. But all the levels are fantastic and the time travel thing was pretty cool.

It’s not everybody’s ultimate favorite, but it is a shame Sega’s odd business choices made this very inaccessible for a long time for a lot of gamers. I actually think it’s the best 2D Sonic of them all.
