George Cooper Sr. was a character greatly mentioned in the Big Bang Theory but he had been dead for many years before Sheldon ever lived in that apartment in Pasadena, California. On another note, his actor Lance Barber actually was on The Big Bang Theory as the old high school bully of Leonard.

But on Young Sheldon, he plays the patriarch of the Cooper family. He really does not share any similarities with Sheldon. He’s just a typical Texas dude that’s also the head coach of the high school football team.

Honestly he has more in common with his son Georgie then he does with Sheldon. But it’s actually Georgie that he has a worse relationship with.

But he did generally love Sheldon and his weird son loved him back in his own way. He did almost anything for Sheldon’s education.

And in The Big Bang Theory it’s suggested that George was a drunk worthless cheater. But they made him more likable and sympathetic in the Young Sheldon series for obvious reasons. So he has an “almost affair” with Brenda Sparks when his relationship with Mary has a rocky spot in their marriage.

And obviously, the Young Sheldon series ends with his death. It was very expected, but the way they did it does tug on your heartstrings. I don’t think you could generally like the series and not shed a tear by the time of this funeral.
