Mary Cooper was definitely going to be a big character in The Young Sheldon series given all the things we learned in The Big Bang Theory. A lot of people praised Zoe Perry for acting so similar to her older counterpart. Which may actually not be skill because her mom in real life (Laurie Metcalf) played Mary Cooper on The Big Bang Theory. I’m a bit shocked they kept her hair mostly blonde as her mom was a brown-brunette.

If there is one character that is almost as central to the story as Sheldon, it is definitely Mary. Being the matriarch of the Cooper family, she’s almost always connected to every storyline.

Given her extremely religious Christian faith, I’m surprised she wasn’t more strict with Sheldon. And she accepted her son’s atheism surprisingly well.

While on The Big Bang Theory it’s suggested that George cheated on her. But she came very close to scandal herself with Pastor Rob. But I think neither George or Mary technically committed infidelity, but they walked that thin line like a tightrope.

It was nice to see her reconcile with George after having a bit of a rocky marriage. And they always put Sheldon’s education first for the most part.

I did think it was wrong for the church to fire her when Georgie got Mandy pregnant and Mandy refused to get married. Hypocrisy and negative people are very common in conservative Southern Baptist churches.

It’s very sad to see her as a widow in mourning. We’ve seen a little of the spinoff Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage and she doesn’t fare much better with accepting George’s demise.
